Advice: Come hungry, if the place is full it is worth waiting for a seat.

Pies

They have one of the best Grilled Cheese Sandwiches in the city, moreover one of the best pies selections too. Anytime I find myself in the neighborhood, I’ve dropped by for a visit to admire the pies, have a coffee and read the paper. This bustling bakery/café is always full of people eating great sandwiches, sipping lattes or indulging in slices of pie. They bake their own breads, and several different types of pies daily.

Grilled Cheese

Lemon Buttermilk Berry Pie

On my last visit I had the Grilled Cheese ($9.50) on their Italian bread with cheese, tomatoes and onions, crispy and grilled to perfection. I also had a slice of their Lemon Buttermilk Berry Pie ($4.95). They have a good selection of other sandwiches that can be grilled or not, soups, salads and a whole range of baked goods including the most delicious pies. There at least 10 different types of pies made fresh daily, by the slice or by the pie. For an extra $1.50 you can add a scoop of ice cream to your pie. Have a latte or a cup of tea, find a seat, read a newspaper and enjoy.

Advice: Try a coffee from their Siphon Bar.

Momento 001

Creative minds will be happy here at this smallish yet very cool café for those craving great coffee, you can’t go wrong when they serve great coffee from local roaster Origins. This is just the beginning of your Momento experience, you can order one of their espresso based beverages such as the Macchiato ($3) that I had made on their four-headed La Marzocco espresso machine or you can order a Pour-over coffee ($2.10) which is a freshly made cup unlike a regular drip. For something different order a coffee from their Siphon bar (also known as the vacuum pot) crafted by high-end glass producer Hariol. Siphon coffee is known as the clean cup, one that uses no paper filters, no direct heat and is made in a short brew time. The baristas are knowledgeable and friendly which is a boon to improving ones experience at a café.

Espresso Macchiato

Espresso Macchiato

I loved the large mural on the wall opposite the entrance which makes a profound statement, a visual expression of café life, and their signature. There is a selection of sandwiches, muffins, and baked goods to go along with one of your favourite beverages. Bring a book, write a book, or gather your thoughts, enjoy your Momento experience.
