Vancouver Cupcake Challenge

Teresa Lanziner -Founder of Cake Tease

Cupcakes have been a rage in the Vancouver area for quite sometime, having been invited to attend the 1st Vancouver Cupcake Challenge on Sunday June 20th, I couldn’t resist the temptation. I thought that I knew most of the Cupcake players from around the city and boy was I ever taken by surprise. This funtastic event was co-organized by Mijune of Follow Me Foodie and Nicole of Nicole Marie Events, no doubt those two wonderful ladies are esteemed cupcake lovers.

Cake Tease Cupcakes

I know that they had their own team of judges and since no one asked me to be one of them, I went on my own tasting challenge along with a couple of friends Ariane Colenbrander and Ed D’Anco-Ascarza, we determined our own favourites from tasting all the different cupcakes.

Our favourite by a long shot were the cupcakes from Cake Tease (on twitter @caketease),
  • My favorite was the Creamy Caramel Cupcake from Cake Tease.
  • Ariane’s favourite was the Very Berry Cupcake from Cake Tease.
  • Ed’s favourite was the Mango Cupcake from Bon Gateau.

Teresa Lanziner is the founder of North Vancouver’s Cake Tease Cupcake company, she told me that she used to be a Snowboard instructor that turned baker about a year and a half ago and bakes everything custom to order with 15 varieties of cupcakes and spectacular custom cakes.

Bon Gateau Cupcakes

Most of the cupcake vendors were giving away samples of their regular sized cupcakes which was the way to go. Some giveaway pieces and others gave away tasters the size of spoon and that was not the way to go. The room was packed when we were there and we there early, huge lineups and everyone tasting and taking photos!

Can’t wait til next year’s cupcake challenge.

Advice: Craving a cupcake ……

It is all about the cupcakes here, from the different icing tops to the fillings to the cutesy names. I had the Strawberry Covered Chocolate Cupcake ($2.95) which was pretty good, this selection was unfilled. They have a range of cupcakes that are filled at $3.95 and offer premium cupakes at $4.95. You can’t miss the shop as there are huge cupcake photos adorning the front window and walls, the cupcakes are on display by flavour on the slanted trays on the cupcake bar. Some of the other flavours that looked appealing were the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Snowballs, Truffle and the Celebration.
