Advice: Dim Sum style is Shanghainese.

Known for their Xiao Long Bao and for how Yu Miao makes her over 700 handmade dumplings each day. My friend and fellow food writer Stephanie Yuen and I dined together to experience their Northern Chinese cuisine and Dim Sum. You won’t find cart service here, instead you will order off the menu and you’ll want to share dishes if dining with friends.

To begin we had the delicious Smoked Fish ($7.99) in a very tasty sauce that followed with the flavourful Green Onion Pancakes (4.99) puffed nicely. Our next dish was the Vegetable Steamed Dumplings ($4.99) that are handmade to order; the next dish was the Chicken Fenpi Salad ($7.99) a rather large and tasty salad made with wide noodles. The next dish was the Stirfry Lamb ($12.99) which was very good.

8 Treasure Sweet Rice

Although fairly full, I had to try at least one of their desserts and went with the award winning 8 Treasure Sweet Rice ($5.99) a very tasty delight and a perfect ending to our meal.

Advice: Dim Sum style is Cantonese

I was in for dim sum recently joined by my friend Stephanie, their menu lists a variety of different Cantonese items for dim sum, since my friend had dined their before she chose the items for me to try.

Scallop Dumplings

Prawn Dumplings

Eggs Tofu

Steamed Rice Crepe

Vegetable Tofu Roll

Daikon Rice Roll

Steamed Chicken Buns

I loved the Daikon Rice Roll which is the Chef’s creation, it was full of flavour and very unique. Every dish was great and the only one that I didn’t care for was the Eggs Tofu. The prices ranged from $2.75 – $5.50 each depending on the dish.

Nutty Taro Roll

To end our meal, we both enjoyed this dessert another of the Chef’s creations that are filled with sweetened mashed taro root, lightly breaded and deep fried, then coated with almond and coconut flakes. This Dim Sum experience was wonderful and I enjoyed trying all these dishes for Cantonese dim sum experience.

Advice: Bring friends and order a variety of dishes to share. Ask your server for assistance to describe the dishes listed.

Chicken with glass noodles with peanut sauce

Marinated Dried Tofu

Mushroom wrapped bean curd

Located upstairs in the Abertdeen Centre mall, if it wasn’t for friends that I was dining with I wouldn’t have found or visited this popular restaurant. We dined in a private room, banquet style in the round with a spin top table to move around our various dishes. Our server poured a Sumac Ridge Brut and Chinese tea all around for those that wanted bubbly or tea. We began with 3 cold tasty dishes that included my favourite Chicken with glass noodles with peanut sauce ($5.95); Marinated Dried Tofu with 5 spices ($5.95); and a Mushroom wrapped bean curd ($5.95) which was Smoked tofu filled with mushrooms. We then moved on had a selection of dishes, the Vegetarian Tofu Dumplings ($5.95) ; the Crab and Tofu ($10.95); and the Tea Smoked Duck ($14.95) which was so flavourful.
