Holiday Lunch Buffets

Yuletide Luncheon Buffet at Fleuri Restaurant

Last week I was invited in to dine at Fleuri Restaurant for their annual Yuletide Luncheon Buffet. This is one of my favourite lunch buffets during the holiday season, my friend Shar Levine joined me to indulge!

Carving Station at Fleuri Restaurant

They have an extensive selection of Salads and I enjoyed the Thai Noodle Salad with Prawns, Bean Curd, Shiitake Mushrooms and Cinnamon Basil as well as the Tomato and Boccioni, Pasta salad and greens.

Of all the Hot items I ate, I loved all the vegetables which were perfectly cooked, Christmas Spiced Caramelized Yams, as well as the Salmon and Halibut and the Vegetarian Cannelloni.

Yule Log at Fleuri Restaurant

The Dessert buffet is the spectacle, and their Chocolate Yule Log is one of my favourites.

Celebrating Earth Hour at Hotel Vancouver

900 West Bar

On Saturday March 27th I attended and celebrated Earth Hour at The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver where Finlandia Vodka sponsored the food and cocktail tasting event in the 900 West lounge. The Purity Party as it was called showcased Finlandia Vodka in a selection of cocktails that will soon appear on the bar menus in many of the Fairmont hotels in Vancouver and across Canada.

Atlantic Char

My friend Ken and I tasted one of the tasting bites prepared by Executive Chef, Robert LeCrom just for the event. The small square of Atlantic Char was served on a delicious bed of beans and garnished with some greens.

These were the Finlandia Cocktails featured during the Earth Hour event.

Finlandia Earthhour

Finlandia Grapefruit

Finlandia Midnight Sun

Finlandia Mango Basil

The lounge was filled with people there to take part in this important and festive event. Tables were set up with tea candle lit paper bags and individual candles and the room glowed from 8:30-9:30pm.

Afternoon Tea at 900 West Lounge

Afternoon Tea is an art and should be an extraordinary experience one that you will cherish. Vancouver has some wonderful places for you to indulge in an Afternoon Tea experience. Each of the places is unique in what they offer along with the type of service and selection of sandwiches, pastries and desserts. I am on a journey around the city to find these extraordinary places.

Here is the fifth of many places that I have visited recently. 900 West Lounge is located inside Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Inside the Lounge

In their Lounge, Afternoon Tea is served daily. You’ll want to make sure that you make an advance reservation as they often fill up, bring along a friend or two or three to join you in the experience.

I had their Afternoon Tea service for $32 per person. First off, I chose my tea of choice from their selection of teas, I chose the “Fairmont Earl Grey”.

3-tiered tray

A three tiered plate arrived to the table, I worked my way from the middle plate to the bottom and then the top, the middle layer was filled with an assortment of petit sandwiches that included Smoked salmon on dark rye, Cucumber and Watercress, Open faced baguette with apple roasted chicken and a mini-black forest ham & brie croissant.  The bottom layer plate had fresh baked Raisin scones served with Devonshire cream and a jar of Hero jam. The top layer plate featured a selection of sweets that included a Chocolate Éclair, Fruit Tart and Cheesecake.

My thoughts – The service was wonderful and very hospitable. Being seated in the grandeur of Hotel Vancouver makes for an enjoyable afternoon tea experience, the sandwiches and pastries were good, I liked how the scones were served with fresh strawberries, however the scones were to hard for my liking and should have had a more flakey texture to them. The Teas are from Metropolitan Tea Company.

The other Tea Service offered is the Children’s Bubblegum Tea at $16 per child includes tea, finger sandwiches (PB&J, of course), fresh strawberries and cream, a giant chocolate chip cookie and a seasonal fruit tartlet.

Style: English Tea Service

Attire: Smart Casual

Time: Afternoon Tea Service is offered 2pm – 4:30pm Daily

900 West Lounge

900 West Georgia Street

For reservations please call 604-662-1900

Stay tuned to part 6 of Afternoon Tea in Vancouver.
