Advice: Follow them on twitter for daily open hours and location. At this time there are 2 locations located in the same proximity, the 2nd location is at Dunsmiur & Howe.

Chicken Souvlaki

I love Georgia Kambolis’s fresh baked pita that was once only available in the restaurant on the waterfront, now you can get this delicious pita on the street. I was by for lunch the other day and had the delicious meal in itself Chicken Souvlaki ($6.50) with housemade pita, local onions and tomatoes. In addition to the souvlaki and greek salad you can also get the same pita on its own naked, or with dips or just plain ‘ol grilled!

I was curious as to why successful restaurateur Harry Kambolis would open carts on the street, so I asked him, Harry said because it takes him back to where it all began, by English Bay, at a Souvlaki Place, a take-out stand where he worked when he was a teenager.

Advice: Reservations suggested, free parking.

Who says dreams don’t come true, I have always longed for an outstanding Greek restaurant in the city, on several occasions this past year I told , restaurateur Harry Kambolis that he should open a Greek restaurant. Could I have been his inspiration to open this restaurant, probably not, however I am ecstatic that he chose to revamp NU into a restaurant serving Modern Greek Cuisine. Guided by his mother Georgia who is quite the accomplished chef herself, the restaurant has been transformed into a Greek wonder.

Grilled Pita Flatbread

I had dinner there last week with a friend and fell in love with the delicious Grilled Pita Flatbread ($9) feta, olives, charred peppers, evoo, oregani, and aegean sea salt with dips the houmus, eggplant and satsiki.

Nu's Charred Octopus

Grilled Calamari with spicy sausage stuffing

Keftedes Lamb Meatballs

Zucchini Chickpea Balls

Chicken Souvlakia

To begin our Greek adventure, I had the outstanding Nu’s Charred Octopus ($12) charisma, meli, lemon, romaine salad, parsley puree, followed by the Grilled Calamari with spicy sausage stuffing ($12.50), skordalia, tomato, crispy squid, preserved lemon. Then it was on to the delicious Keftedes Lamb Meatballs ($9.50)  tomato sauce, dried olives, chive oil, I then had their Vegetarian Zucchini Chickpea Balls ($8.50) eggplant puree, eggplant chips, this followed by the Chicken Souvlakia ($12) with satsiki.

Albacore Tuna

Lamb Stew

For the main dish we had Albacore Tuna ($19) olive paste, warm chickpeas, green beans, calamata black pepper jus and the outstanding and full of flavours Lamb Stew ($19) quince, pine nuts, red wine, artichokes, vine leaves, cinnamon.

Pomegranate and Walnut Sorbet

Loukoumades traditional Meli

Of course dessert is always a must for me as I like to finish off my meals on a sweet note, both of these were really good the refreshing Pomegranate and Walnut Sorbet ($6.50) and the Loukoumades traditional meli balls ($8), cinnamon meli, walnuts.

The service was gracious and hospitable, the restaurants décor is splendid with one of the most beautiful views of Burrard Inlet as you gaze outside the windows. Looking forward to my next visit to try some more of their specialties.

BERT’S RESTAURANT

Advice: Sit anywhere you feel like sitting.

Wholewheat French toast

Pan Fried Potatoes

This is one of those long time places that has become an institution in the city, since 1948, Bert’s has been serving breakfasts to loyal customers who know good food and value. Their large collection of bobbleheads and of famous people too sits above the front counter drawing customers with their cameras in hand. Love the counter for solo dining, lots of seating throughout the restaurant. I was there for breakfast and had 2 slices of Wholewheat French toast ($5.50) along with a side of Pan Fried Potatoes ($3.25). One of my friends eats there regularly 2-3 times a week for breakfast, he always orders something different to make his visit memorable. This restaurant has been serving customers for over the past 60 years because the service is ever so friendly and people can drop in and sit anywhere they would like. Asides from the extensive selection on the breakfast menu they also serve a wide variety of items on their lunch and dinner menus including hot and cold sandwiches, salads, gourmet burgers, pastas, chicken, greek dishes, steaks and seafood. Make sure you leave some room for dessert or one of their popular milkshakes after your lunch or dinner.

Advice: Bring friends and order some small plates to share.

Meat Moussaka

K.l.t. Sandwich with Greek Fries

I have dined here a few times, sometimes with friends and at times on my own, the Greek food is unlike any of the places you may have dined at in this part of the world. This is a journey through Greece and as you travel you will be inspired by the dishes that you taste. First of all the room is stylish, as you enter you will see white brick walls, brown chairs, tables with white tablecloths and white napkins. The long bar is sleek white with Ouzo bottles lining up behind the bar and pictures of relatives from their home country. Secondly, the menu is vast and features a wide range of Greek specialties which is abode to healthier cooking, light and delicious. Some of the dishes that I have had include the Meat Moussaka ($14) — short rib ragu, potatoes, eggplant and cheese béchamel, served with Fennel apple salata. White bean hummus ($6) dip and a Spicy feta with basil ($6) dip both served with their Greek bread and pita. K.l.t. Sandwich ($11) is a boneless chicken thigh, mixed leaves, tomato and spicy feta, served with Greek fries. The perfect ending to a meal here is to have the Greek coffee with a little sugar and the Baklava ($7) mixed nuts rolled in filo pastry and drenched in honey; or one of their other tasty desserts. There is a great selection of Greek wines and Ouzo for your enjoyment.

Specializing in your not so usual Greek food, you will find some tasty delicacies here.

Piato 1st Anniversary Party

I spent the night of December 3rd at Piato Estiatorio, enjoying their wonderful greek cuisine, indulged with grilled pita and hummous and tzataki for dipping, loved the mini lamb burger and other appies.

Complimentary wine was served along with appies, and a live acoustic performance by Tae Mcrae. This good looking crowd of friends and customers mingled and networked about.

Meat Mousaka

I ordered up one of my favourite dishes here which is their Meat Mousaka made with short rib ragu, potatoes, eggplant and cheese bechamel served with a fennel and apple salad. Both of the head chefs Alex Graffos and Jerry Moschopolous take great care in creating the delicious greek food that Piato is known.

Hawaii Five-O Pizza

Hawaii Five-O Pizza

I have been a regular here at this Greek restaurant for many years, it is a family favorite as we know that they make delicious food. My favourites here are the Chicken Souvlaki ($16.50) skewered and grilled chicken served on a bed of rice, roasted potatoes, greek salad and satsiki; Hawaii Five-O Pizza ($16.50) with mushrooms, pineapple (and I get it without the ham); Spanakopita ($6) spinach, leeks, feta, fresh mint and fresh dill, wrapped in filo pastry; Briam ($12.50) zucchini, eggplant, red and green peppers, potatoes, tomato, garlic, and onions baked in olive oil and tomato sauce, topped with feta.

There is lots of seating inside as well as a patio the runs around front to the side of the building, the bar is well stocked and there is live music many nights of the week. The Main on Main is located in a good neighborhood and is fortunate to have established customers who come for their flavorful Greek and southern Mediteranean cuisine.
