Tasting Plates Vancouver: The Menu

12 restaurants, cafes, bakeries & food trucks in 11 locations, will be participating in the event that will take place all over downtown Vancouver including Gastown, Yaletown, Downtown and the Westend. Each of the restaurants will be doing tasting plates of their various dishes, and some will now be offering beverages as well.

Advance Tickets: $25 per person (eventbrite fee extra) before Feb 12, $30 per person after Feb 12 (eventbrite fee extra)– ticket price includes tasting plates at each of the participating restaurants throughout the evening as well as admission to the After Party that starts at 9pm. A donation of $2 from each ticket purchased will go to support the Vancouver Food Bank.

Start location for the event is the W2 Media Cafe at 111 West Hastings (downtown Vancouver) –this is where all ticketholders will register and obtain their map cards for the night of eating. Visit each of the participating restaurants by walking, transit, bike, driving or carpooling with friends.

Participating restaurants and their menus for the evening event are as follows:

W2 Media Cafe 

Tasting plate: guests will be able to select 6 of the 10 items we will be featuring for their tasting plate.

Our offerings:

  1. Juniper duck with wild blueberry sauce on wild rice cake
  2. Tomato fennel pulled pork with whisky vanilla applesauce galette/tatin
  3. Buffalo sausage on bannock with smoked salmon pate
  4. Salted salmon (wild pacific salmon) with kale cream on roasted garlic potato crust
  5. Mint, pea and parmesan puree on yam crisp
  6. Bolivian empanadas vegetarian
  7. Sticky sesame butter nut squash and cumin roasted cauliflower skewers
  8. Bannock with wild rose or blueberry jelly and bosc pear
  9. Dark chocolate and lemon tart
  10. to be advised

We will also be offering complimentary, samples of our Mexican drinking chocolate made with cinnamon, chipotle and ancho cile peppers on it’s own or with a shot of espresso.

Our Tasting Plate will feature a selection of our 3 Bruschette

  3. The Almost Chocolate – Banana blended with medjool dates, almond butter, raw cacao, raw maca & soy Milk

Bonchaz 

Our Tasting Plate will feature a choice of one of these creations –

  1. Original Bonchaz — A sweet milk bun with a thin crust, icing sugar, and butter filling
  2. Chocolate Truffle Bonchaz — Our signature Bonchaz with a decadent Choclate Truffle filling.
  3. Vegan Slider — A snack sized version of our Vegan Sandwich on our signature baguette.  Hummus, Sprouts, Roasted Peppers, Lettuce, Cucumbers & Roma Tomatoes.

  1. Piece of Leonidas chocolate
  2. Liege Waffle
  3. Espresso Con Panna
  4. Shot of our regular Hot Chocolate (52.3%)

Cosca Restaurant 

Our Tasting Plate will feature a sample of each of these dishes -

  1. Funghi Selvatico flatbread – Wild mushroom medley, pecorino – romano
  2. Pesto Gamberi flatbread – Pesto shrimp, sun-dried tomatoes, parmigiano
  3. Ceasar salad – romaine lettuce, paremsan, dressing
  4. Spaghettini Bolognese Rich vegetable meat sauce, parmigiano

Cupcakes 

Our Tasting Plate will be a selection of

1-2 mini cupcakes per person in a variety of flavors.

Soho Road

Our Tasting Plate will feature a sample of each of these dishes -

  1. Butter Chicken Naan Kebab – Tandoori chicken smothered in our famous butter chicken sauce and topped off with a salad of cucumber, tomato, red onion and cilantro all on a freshly baked Naan.
  2. Beef Seekh Naan Kebab – Spicy Beef kebab with chaat masala, served with a mint yogurt and drizzled with a tamarind chutney. Topped off  with a salad of cucumber, tomato, red onion and cilantro all on a freshly baked Naan.
  3. Mixed Vegetable Subji – Carrots, Peas, Potatoes and onions cooked with cumin, corriander and other traditional spices, topped with a light mayonnaise and a salad of cucumber, tomato, red onion and cilantro served on a freshly baked Naan.

Our Tasting Plate will feature a selection of these creations -

Tasting Plates Vancouver: The Restaurants

12 restaurants, cafes, bakeries & food trucks will be participating in the event that will take place all over downtown Vancouver including Gastown, Yaletown, Downtown and the Westend. Each of the restaurants will be doing tasting plates of their various dishes, and some will now be offering beverages as well.

The starting location for everyone to begin their tasting adventure will be at the W2 Media Café at 111 West Hastings Street (in the Woodwards building, between Cambie and Abbott). Registration will open at 5:45pm and this is where you will pick up your map cards for the evening. The W2 Media Café will be serving up some Tasting Plates of their own to kick off the evening and Salt Spring Coffee Co will be serving up free espresso all night along at their espresso bar inside the W2 Media Café.

Vancouver Foodster Fall Flavours

The Vancouver Foodster Fall Flavours event was lots of fun for all who braved the cold to come and taste some of the best gelato at Bella Gelateria on November 23rd.

A food networking event that connected Vancouver’s vibrant food community where we offered Exclusive premium flavours created for our Vancouver Foodster event. Richard Wolak had the idea to create these special flavours that were handcrafted by James Colleridge of Bella Gelateria, the flavours were: 1) Vista d’oro Walnut Wine Sorbetto 2) XFour/Xoxolat Choco-Tini Gelato and 3)  La Taqueria Mole Gelato.

Meet the Producers of our Fall Flavours Event

Vancouver Foodster Fall Flavours Event on November 23rd was created to educate and enjoy the flavours of local producers and Gelato. All of these producers make their own award winning products locally and have come together to create Gelato flavours for this exclusive event.

Here are the people behind each of the flavours being created for our event on November 23rd.

Meet James Coleridge who is the Maestro of Bella Gelateria who is creating these Exclusive Premium Flavours -Under the expert tutelage of Italian Champions and Maestros, James apprenticed and honed his skills in the art of gelato in Italy. James received formal training at the Italian Culinary Institute and advanced masters training at Carpigiani’s Gelato University. His passion and commitment to hand crafting the best gelato soon caught the attention of Time Magazine Online. Subsequently, James was selected by a major Italian newspaper for a feature article – a North American gelatière in Italy! In 2012, James will represent Canada at the World Cup of Gelato in Rimini, Italy.

Flavours

1) Vista d’oro Walnut Wine Sorbetto

Patrick & Lee Murphy are the founders and producers of Vista D’oro Winery. They are dedicated to producing delicious hand-crafted wines.  The traditional techniques and old world values that are used in our artisanal preserves are reflected in our winemaking methods.  Made in small batches on their farm to be shared with family and friends, new and old.

2007 D’oro

Our flagship fortified walnut wine is a blend of North Okanagan Marechal Foch, Central Okanagan Merlot & Cabernet Franc, Fraser Valley Green Walnuts and Okanagan Brandy. 13 months in French and American oak.

2) XFour/Xoxolat Choco-Tini Gelato

Marcus Von Albrecht is the Principal behind XFour Handcrafted Vodka which is B.C’s first handcrafted premium corn and rye based vodka. Handcrafted and distilled four times by master distiller Frank Deiter who has accumulated over 70 awards for his line of spirits; Xfour is completely additive free and fed with British Columbia’s own pristine glacier water retrieved from a 356 ft deep well. A crystal clear complextion, with hints of fruit and anise. This crisp, pure vodka will surely give people something to talk about!

The vodka has already come together with Xoxolat chocolate as a Chocotini service at various events around the city, now we are taking it one step further and making it into a Gelato.

Hodie Rondeau is the principal of XOXOLAT ~ sho-sho-la ~ which an edible gallery of all things chocolate displaying only the finest of the world’s chocolates, specializing in Single Origin and Estate chocolates, and, treats pairing fun & unusual flavours with chocolate. Finding its inspiration from the classic European chocolaterie, XOXOLAT is a chocolate boutique that carries its own brand and includes the wondrous creations of award winning chocolatiers.

3) La Taqueria Mole Gelato

Marcelo Rmz. Romero is the Principal of La Taqueria taco shop located downtown Vancouver. Everything is homemade there including their fillings and sauces, they make one of the best Mole in the city and now we are taking it one step further and making there Mole into a Mole Gelato for the first time.
