Fairmont Pacific Rim Pastry Chef Arthur Chen and his Garden of Desserts

On June 17th, I attended this wonderful event at the Fairmont Pacific Rim. One of the rooms was dedicated to Cocktails and this is where some of the city’s best bartenders were competing for best cocktail. In the other room as well as the foyer there were many of the city’s top restaurants dishing out exquisite tasting plates as well as 22 wineries from Chile showing their latest releases.

My favourite dishes were those from Joe Fortes, Fleuri and YEW!

Literally stirring things up, Derek Vanderheide of the Rosewood Hotel Georgia was the winner of the cocktail competition with his drink, La Moustaccioli.

Pastry Chef Arthur Chen and his team were very creative with their Garden of Desserts, I loved the Chocolate Covered Almond Pound Cake, mini Cupcakes and all the other desserts in the garden.

Meet visiting winemakers and taste wines from wine regions across Chile from over 25 visiting wineries, each pouring up to five different wines at their table. Chilean styled passed hors d’oeuvres will be provided to pair with the fabulous wines on offer. Educate yourself on Chilean wines while sampling additional wines at three focus stations. After tasting your way around the room, peruse the silent auction and take in the Sour themed cocktail competition featuring Vancouver’s hottest bartenders.

This event is a fundraiser for the British Columbia Hospitality Foundation (www.bchospitalityfoundation.com). The BCHF provides support for individuals within the hospitality community, coping with extraordinary costs arising from a serious health crisis. The Foundation also awards scholarships and bursaries to students enrolled in Hospitality programmes.

Salud Chile at the Vancouver Winefest

On April 24th I attended this wine and grazing lunch held at the magnificent Teahouse in Stanley Park. This sold out event featured wine producers from all over Chile showing off their wines for people to taste. The crowd ate a variety of cheeses, canapes and other passed around food.

Everyone had a great time mingling about and tasting the different wines from the many wine regions of Chile.
